Abstract: The present disclosure provides a low-cost flame-retardant and fire-resistant central tube optical cable (100) based on mica tape. The optical cable (100) comprises an optical fiber unit (102) enclosed within a central loose tube (106) made of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and filled with water-blocking fiber paste (104). A composite flame-retardant layer (108), including an inner fire-resistant mica tape layer (108-1) reinforced with single-sided glass fiber cloth and an outer halogen-free flame-retardant tape layer (108-2), is tightly wrapped around the central loose tube (106). Non-metallic reinforcement (110), such as aramid or high-modulus glass fiber yarn, is applied over the composite layer to provide tensile strength and maintain dielectric properties. An outer sheath (112) made of low-smoke halogen-free flame- retardant polyolefin (LSZH) encloses the structure. The present disclosure achieves superior flame resistance, mechanical flexibility, and cost efficiency, meeting IEC 60332 and IEC 60331 standards for flame and fire resistance.
