Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods and systems for coding video. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a video bitstream comprising multiple blocks, including a current block. The method includes (i) when a block size of the current block is less than a first threshold, generating an intra mode list without using intra modes of any neighboring blocks, (ii) when the block size of the current block between the first threshold and a second threshold, generating the intra mode list using a set of intra modes for a set of neighboring blocks without checking their adjacent angles, and (iii) when the block size of the current block is greater than the second threshold, generating the intra mode list using the set of intra modes and/or a set of adjacent angles for the set of intra modes. The method includes reconstructing the current block using the intra mode list.
