Abstract: A machine learning-based intelligent device for real-time air pollution monitoring using electric vehicles is disclosed. The device, mountable on electric cars, buses, and two- and three-wheelers and powered from the vehicle, comprises a speed-compensated air sampling arrangement, a sensing module measuring particulate matter and gases including nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, and volatile organic compounds, environmental sensors, and a satellite positioning receiver. A processing unit applies trained machine learning calibration models that correct environmental dependence, cross-sensitivities, platform motion effects, and drift, with autonomous field recalibration through rendezvous events at reference stations and between devices, and transmits quality-assured, geotagged measurements in real time. A server arrangement fuses fleet streams with reference stations, meteorology, and urban covariates using spatiotemporal machine learning into continuously updated, street- resolved pollution maps with uncertainty, short-term forecasts, hotspot and source localization, and alerts, while supplying local pollution state to vehicle cabin ventilation, delivering citywide exposure-relevant air quality intelligence at a fraction of fixed-network cost.
