Abstract: A machine learning-based smart irrigation device for optimized water resource management and enhanced crop yield is disclosed. The device comprises a sensing arrangement with soil moisture sensors at plural depths of the crop root zone, a microclimate unit measuring temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and wind, and a rain gauge; a solar-powered controller unit storing trained machine learning models that estimate root zone water status, self-calibrate to the site soil by learning field capacity and drainage from observed moisture redistribution, and predict forthcoming crop water demand from computed evapotranspiration, retrieved weather forecasts, and crop growth stage; and controlled valves and pump interfaces through which an optimized schedule, determined against stage-dependent moisture target bands, water and energy costs, and source constraints, is executed automatically in a closed loop, with the measured moisture response refining the models continually. Rainfall suspension, anomaly detection of leaks and faults, autonomous offline operation, and an intelligible mobile interface are provided, substantially reducing water consumption while enhancing yield.
