Abstract: The present invention discloses the development of a solar roof power system utilizing machine learning technology for autonomous and semi-autonomous automobiles. The system contains components including a photovoltaic roof array, photovoltaic power conditioning device, environmental sensor unit, automobile operation data interface, battery management and energy storage device, machine learning prediction system, adaptive energy management and energy distribution system. Data collection includes solar irradiation, temperature, vehicle orientation, path, velocity, traffic, state of charge of the battery, energy requirement for propulsion and auxiliary electrical loads. The use of machine learning algorithms predicts photovoltaic energy production and energy requirements of the vehicle in the future based on historical and real time operation data. The adaptive control system generates a plan for energy management and selectively directs the solar energy collected to the battery charging, propulsion related loads and auxiliary system operations.
