MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611062797 A) filed by Netaji Subhas University Of Technology on May 18, 2026, for Magnetic Cellulose Nanofiber-Derived Carbon Dot–iron Oxide Nanocomposite For Dye Degradation.

Abstract: The invention relates to nanostructured photocatalytic materials for wastewater treatment, and more particularly to a magnetic cellulose nanofiber-derived carbon dot-iron oxide nanocomposite for visible-light degradation of dyes from aqueous media. The nanocomposite comprises carbon dot domains derived from cellulose nanofibers obtained from a cellulose-rich substrate prepared from sugarcane bagasse, an iron oxide nanoparticle phase integrated therewith to form composite particles, a carbon dot-iron oxide heterojunction interface, and a surface bearing oxygen-containing and nitrogen-containing functionalities. The iron oxide nanoparticle phase is formed by co-precipitation in the presence of the carbon dot domains to provide intimate interfacial association for transfer of photogenerated charge carriers under visible-light irradiation. The nanocomposite further exhibits meso-porosity accessible to dye molecules, water and dissolved oxygen, and magnetic responsiveness enabling separation from aqueous media by an external magnetic field.
