MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641126791 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 24, 2026, for Magnetically Encoded Structural Health Monitoring System For Conveyor Belts.
Inventors include Chandra Mouliswaran S; Mohammed Kaif K; and Pravin G.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: An embodiment herein provides a structural health monitoring system (100) for a conveyor belt (102). The system includes passive magnetic fibers (202A, 202B, 202C), an electromagnetic excitation coil (104), a three-dimensional Hall-effect sensor array (106), telemetry sensors (108), an edge controller (110), and a programmable logic controller (112). The excitation coil (104) generates signals at multiple frequencies, and the sensor array (106) detects corresponding magnetic responses. A processor of the edge controller (110) generates depth-resolved magnetic response data and a three-dimensional structural tomography representation. The processor determines expected elastic deformation and normalizes magnetic distortion to identify permanent structural degradation. The processor further determines a degradation location, internal ply depth, degradation type, degradation drift velocity, and remaining useful life, and generates a control signal to adjust conveyor operating parameters upon detecting a predetermined degradation condition.
