Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is a manual locking differential for lightweight off-road vehicles. The manual locking differential comprises a differential housing, an input shaft supported by the differential housing along an offset input axis, a torque transfer assembly positioned in the differential housing and comprising a ring gear coupled with the input shaft, opposed axle members extending from the torque transfer assembly, and a manually actuatable locking assembly. The manually actuatable locking assembly is configured to selectively couple one of the opposed axle members with the torque transfer assembly so that the manual locking differential is operable in an open operating state and a locked operating state. The offset input axis permits a propshaft path to be laterally displaced relative to the opposed axle members, while the locking assembly provides driver-controlled traction engagement for compact off- road vehicle drivetrains.
