Abstract: MANUFACTURING YTTRIA-STABILIZED ZIRCONIA DRILL BITS BY CONTROLLED CERAMIC PROCESSING AND CNC DIAMOND GRINDING. A method for manufacturing a precision ceramic rotary cutting tool from a yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) rod is disclosed. The method comprises mounting a cylindrical YSZ rod in a CNC grinding system, performing controlled rough machining, generating one or more helical flutes through synchronized workpiece rotation, wheel rotation, axial feed, and radial infeed using a diamond grinding wheel, followed by point grinding, edge finishing, polishing, and dimensional inspection. The manufacturing sequence employs progressive grinding passes and controlled coolant delivery to reduce machining-induced edge chipping and improve dimensional accuracy and surface integrity. The method provides a repeatable manufacturing process for producing precision ceramic rotary cutting tools having predetermined geometric characteristics and high manufacturing consistency.
