Abstract: The present invention discloses a matrix-type transdermal drug delivery patch of ketorolac tromethamine comprising a solvent-cast polymer matrix of Eudragit RL 100 and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose K15M in a 3:1 weight ratio, dibutyl phthalate as plasticiser at 30 percent weight-in-weight of the polymer, and a terpene-based permeation enhancer selected from eucalyptus oil, d-limonene or menthol at 5 percent weight-in-volume, laminated between an aluminium-polyethylene terephthalate backing membrane and a silicone-coated release liner. The patch of 4 square centimetre area contains 10 milligrams of the drug and exhibits a thickness of 0.20 plus or minus 0.02 millimetres, folding endurance above 260 times, drug content uniformity of 98.5 percent, cumulative in vitro release of 84 percent at 24 hours following Higuchi diffusion kinetics, and an ex vivo transdermal flux across excised rat skin of 52.7 micrograms per square centimetre per hour representing a 1.9-fold enhancement over terpene-free control.
