Abstract: In order to control multiple units (2) by means of a master controller (3), reference values (14) are transmitted from the controller (3) to the units (2), wherein each of the reference values (14) is individually assigned to one of the units (2). In each of the units (2), the assigned reference value (14) is received and stored; and counter readings (13) are set to an identical initial value in all units (2). First counting signals (18) and second counting signals (19) are then transmitted from the controller (3) to the units (2), wherein the counting signals (18, 19) are the same for all units (2). The counting signals (18, 19) are received in each of the units (2). In each of the units (2), the counter reading (13) is increased by an identical fixed increase amount upon reception of each first counting signal (18) and is decreased by an identical fixed decrease amount upon reception of each second counting signal (19). A current target state of each of the units (2) is determined in the same way by comparing the respective reference value (14) with the current counter reading (13) in the respective unit (2).
