Abstract: ABSTRACT METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SESSION MANAGEMENT FOR SIDELINK POSITIONING The connectivity between the user equipment (UE) and the service network for communication in the New Radio (NR) system is through session management. The present invention discloses the handling of the Side link Positioning Protocol (SLPP) session when a Location Management Function (LMF) is involved in the process. LMF is a network entity defined in 5G NR Core Network to provide positioning functionality by means of determining the geographic position of a mobile device based on the downlink and uplink radio signals used for location measurement. On a broader level, the LMF-involved SLPP procedures are categorized into two: SL-MO-LR with LMF and SL-MT-LR with LMF. There is a minor extension of the SL-MT-LR case for periodic, triggered location events. All these cases require some modifications at the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and LMF levels which covers the main scope of this document.
