MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110846 A) filed by Malaviya National Institute Of Technology Jaipur on September 16, 2026, for Method And Composition For Stabilizing Municipal Solid Waste Soil In Subgrade Applications.
Inventors include Sonal Saluja; Prakash Somani; Arun Gaur; and Ghanshyam Balotiya.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a sustainable method and composition for converting stabilized municipal solid waste (SMSW) and bottom ash into an engineered foundation material for construction. The composition comprises 68–98% SMSW, 2% cement, 0–15% bottom ash, and 0–15% natural soil by dry weight, hydrated to an optimum moisture content. The method involves processing, screening, controlled proportioning, dry blending, cement incorporation, moisture adjustment, and compaction. An optimal composition (78% SMSW, 2% cement, 5% bottom ash, 15% natural soil) yields high structural integrity, demonstrating a maximum dry density of 1.71 g/cm³, a soaked CBR of 61.27%, and a UCS of 100.75 kPa. The 2% cement addition significantly enhances particle bonding and moisture resistance. This invention facilitates large-scale utilization of municipal and industrial wastes for pavement subgrades, embankments, and foundations, thereby minimizing landfill disposal and preserving natural soil.
