Abstract: The present invention discloses a method (600) and system (100) for compile-time optimization of a heterogeneous FPGA system. A target workload is received for deployment on the heterogeneous FPGA system, and a digital twin module (104) corresponding to the heterogeneous FPGA system generates, by a performance predictor (106), predicted performance information for a plurality of candidate hardware configurations. The predicted performance information includes predicted latency. A reinforcement learning engine (108) operating within the digital twin module (104) computes reward values using the predicted performance information and at least one user-defined workload performance constraint. The reinforcement learning engine (108) updates state-action information based on the reward values and selects an optimized hardware configuration. A compilation optimization module (110) automatically generates compilation parameters corresponding to the optimized hardware configuration and integrates the compilation parameters into a hardware-software compilation flow, wherein the compilation parameters include frequency configuration.
