Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for estimating d-axis inductance and q-axis inductance of a synchronous reluctance motor. The method includes generating (904) a derived electrical rotor position based on integrating a reference electrical speed used in an open-loop excitation along with one or more current references. The method includes obtaining (906) an actual electrical rotor position using an encoder and computing (908) an angular misalignment based on difference between the derived electrical rotor position and the actual electrical rotor position. The method includes transforming (910) the one or more stator voltage and the one or more stator current components from the derived rotating reference frame into an actual rotating reference frame, based on the angular misalignment. Furthermore, the method includes estimating (912) the d-axis inductance and the q-axis inductance using the transformed one or more stator voltage and the transformed one or more current components at a constant operating speed.
