MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086233 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 11, 2025, for Method And System For Minimizing Onboard Computing Requirements In Robotic Applications.
Inventors include Manthan Shah; Aksh Bavisi; Dr. Bhasuru Abhinaya Srinivas; and Dr. Kishan Ashok Fuse.

Abstract: Small unmanned and autonomous robotic platforms, especially those designed for disposable or one-way missions, are severely constrained by onboard processing power, size, weight, and energy. At present, equipping each vehicle with the intelligence needed for real-time computer vision, complex navigation, and advanced decision-making drives per-unit robots very expensive, preventing large-scale deployments in both civilian and military domains. This invention upends that trade-off by radically reducing onboard hardware to a lightweight "thin client" and shifting the heavy lifting, such as machine learning inference, Al algorithms, sensor fusion, path planning, and mission management to external ground stations or cloud servers connected over high-speed links (e.g., 5G, satellite constellations, or tactical mesh networks). By minimizing onboard computing and power needs, this approach reduces vehicle hardware costs by up by a significant margin, simplifies field maintenance, and unlocks economically viable swarm and one-way expendable missions. It makes advanced robotics accessible in agriculture, search-and-rescue, environmental monitoring, and beyond, transforming how we build, deploy, and operate fleets of autonomous systems. Figure -1
