MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641127047 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 25, 2026, for Method And System For Phase-Aware Adaptive Tile Quantization Of Complex Sar Single-Look Complex Imagery.

Inventors include Dr. R. Manjula; Lakshya Gupta; Mohammed Abdul Rahman; and Abhay Mittal.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and system for compressing focused complex SAR single-look complex imagery while preserving interferometricphase. Theimageis divided into tiles. Each tile receives an initial bit depth of 4, 6 or 8 bits from a phase-complexity score combining phase variance, circular phase dispersion, magnitude entropy and spatial phase-gradient fringe density. Pixels brighter than a factor times the tile mean are stored losslessly in a side stream, and their tiles are set to 8 bits. Each tile is then quantized and reconstructed, and its complex correlation with the original is measured, its bit depth being raised until the correlation meets a floor such as 0.95. In-phase and quadrature components are quantized to per-tile ranges and packed. On Sentinel-1 data, the method reduced phase error by 24.6 to 65.1 percent relative to 4-bit BAQ.
