MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631047549 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Rourkela Nit Rourkela on April 14, 2026, for Method And System For Resource-Efficient K-Colouring Of Graphs Using Quantum Framework.

Inventors include Sen, Lord; and Mukherjee, Shyamapada.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR RESOURCE-EFFICIENT K-COLOURING OF GRAPHS USING QUANTUM FRAMEWORK The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and method (300) for resource-efficient K-colouring of graphs a hybrid quantum- classical computing system. The method comprises receiving (302) an undirected graph and performing (304) symmetry-based graph reduction to obtain a reduced graph while preserving chromatic properties. Each vertex is mapped (306) to a qubit register (124) on a quantum processing unit (QPU) (120), and hardware-compatible quantum instructions are generated (308) to implement colour encoding and adjacency constraint circuits. A quantum constraint circuit is constructed (310), and outputs are accumulated (312) using ancilla qubits to generate a constraint indicator. A quantum solver is selected (314) and executed (316) on the QPU (120), wherein invalid colour assignments are penalized. The qubits are measured (318), and measurement outcomes are decoded (320) to identify at least one valid K-colouring. The resulting-coloured graph is provided (322) as output. Figures 3
