MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631081383 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Rourkela Nit Rourkela on July 01, 2026, for Method For Estimating Airflow Resistivity Of Porous Materials And System Thereof.
Inventors include Pandey, Sharat; and Jena, Dibya Prakash.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: METHOD FOR ESTIMATING AIRFLOW RESISTIVITY OF POROUS MATERIALS AND SYSTEM THEREOF Provided are a system (100) and method (200) for estimating airflow resistivity (AFR) of a porous material. The method comprises placing (202) a porous material sample inside a transmission loss (TL) tube (102) configured according to ASTM E-2611 and acquiring (204) acoustic pressure data upstream and downstream of the sample using a plurality of microphones (106). Further, the method comprises calculating (206) a transfer matrix corresponding to the porous material from the acquired acoustic pressure data. Furthermore, the method comprises extracting (208) a second element (T12) of the transfer matrix. Upon extracting, the method comprises determining (210) airflow resistivity by computing a real part of the second element (T12) and dividing by a thickness (d) of the sample. Moreover, the method comprises estimating (212) airflow resistivity in a mid-frequency broadband region by selecting statistically stable frequency segments while excluding resonance-affected regions.
