MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611065818 A) filed by Sharda University on May 25, 2026, for Method For Extracting And Modifying Starch From Tamarind Seeds.
Inventors include Shalvika Tripathi; Akansha; Aditi Rikhari; and Zoobiya Islam.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is a method (100) for extracting and modifying starch from tamarind seeds that comprises collecting a required quantity of tamarind seeds, cleaning the collected tamarind seeds, drying the collected tamarind seeds, grinding the dried tamarind seeds to obtain uniform tamarind flour, dispersing the obtained tamarind flour into an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, filtering the obtained slurry to separate insoluble residues, washing the filtrate with distilled water until a neutral pH is achieved, allowing the purified filtrate to stand undisturbed to enable sedimentation of starch granules, decanting the supernatant liquid and the settled starch is collected, drying the recovered starch under controlled temperature conditions to obtain purified starch powder, re- dispersing the obtained starch powder in a required volume of distilled water, disrupting the starch granules through ultrasonication for structural modification, separating the modified starch through controlled centrifugation and drying the separated starch to obtain stable starch powder.
