MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641087286 A) filed by Jain Deemed-To-Be University on July 16, 2026, for Method For Fabricating A Sulfur-Lig Cathode For A Metal-Sulfur Battery.

Inventors include Dr. Debasis Ghosh; and Dr. Prahlada Thippeswamy.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for fabricating a sulfur-LIG cathode for a metal-sulfur battery comprises the steps of: i) providing a polyimide substrate, ii) forming one or more laser-induced graphene (LIG) regions on the polyimide substrate by irradiating the substrate with a CO2 laser, iii) depositing elemental sulfur onto at least one selected LIG region corresponding to a cathode region, iv) subjecting the sulfur-coated LIG region to three consecutive laser-scribing cycles such that the sulfur undergoes sublimation and subsequent desublimation onto the LIG region, v) allowing the sublimed sulfur to redistribute within pores, edge sites and defect sites of the LIG region, and vi) thermally treating the sulfur-containing LIG region at a temperature in the range of 150-250oC for 10-20 minutes to infiltrate sulfur into the porous LIG framework, thereby obtaining a sulfur-infused laser-induced graphene cathode having uniformly distributed sulfur within the LIG framework.
