Abstract: ABSTRACT Method for optimizing shear wall curtailment and progressive opening ratios for seismic-resistant structural systems The present invention provides a method for examining the seismic behavior of high-rise structures with shear walls incorporating varying percentages of openings and vertical curtailments. A detailed parametric analysis is conducted to assess the influence of progressive openings (ranging from 0% to 50%) and vertical curtailment (from 50% to 100%) on structural performance under seismic forces. A total of 66 structural models are developed and analyzed using ETabs, employing the linear static method to assess the impact of openings and wall curtailment. Lateral displacement, story drift, storey shear, overturning moment and storey stiffness are evaluated to determine the effects of the variables. It is observed that incorporating opening ratios upto 30% combined with wall curtailment levels between 60% – 70% maintain stable seismic response with controlled drift behavior and improved load transfer continuity.
