Abstract: The present invention provides a method for synthesizing dimethyl terephthalate, comprising: adding a sulfonic acid catalyst into methanol and terephthalic acid, performing a primary esterification reaction, then adding methanol, and performing a secondary esterification reaction; and crystallizing and distilling a secondary esterification product to obtain dimethyl terephthalate, wherein the catalyst comprises hexylbenzenesulfonic acid, dodecyl sulfonic acid, pentadecyl sulfonic acid or dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid. Compared with a concentrated sulfuric acid catalyst, the catalyst used in the present invention greatly weakens the corrosion of the catalyst to a device, and has good repeated use performance.
