MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541005262 A) filed by Ashok Leyland Limited on January 22, 2025, for Method For Upcycling Foundry Waste Sand And Waste Polythene.
Inventors include Prasannakumar N; Jeyabal A; Nagarajan E; Anantha Rajan T. S; Gobinath K R; Babu K; Dr. Palavesa Murugan R; Parthiban D; Nepolian D; Selvam V; Elangovan S; and Leo Bernard A.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: A method for upcycling a foundry waste sand and a waste polythene, comprising of collecting the foundry waste sand and the waste polythene; sorting, shredding and processing the waste polythene; mixing the foundry waste sand and shredded waste polythene waste to form a waste mixture of 60-80% of the foundry waste sand and 20-40% of the waste polythene; heating the waste mixture at a temperature 200°C-250°C and stirring the waste mixture to form the waste mixture as a pulp; and moulding the pulp into a pre-cast concrete and allowing to cool the pulp in mould to solidify as the pre-cast concrete. The present invention aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions due to clay brick and cement. Also, present invention aims to provide sustainable infrastructure and conserves the natural resources like clay and soil. [Figure 1]
