Abstract: ABSTRACT METHOD FOR WAX REMOVAL FROM MULTI-SCALE STRUCTURED INSECT WING SURFACES The present invention relates to a method for wax removal from multi-scale structured insect wing surfaces. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of preparing a detergent solution (9) with a concentration range of 20-30% to ensure uniform mixing for effective wax removal; immersing the multi-scale structured insect wing surfaces (10) completely in the prepared detergent solution to ensure complete contact between the detergent (9) and the wing surfaces (10); allowing the insect wing surfaces (10) to remain immersed in the detergent solution (9) for a time duration of 15-30 minutes; and analyzing the wing surfaces (11) to ensure complete removal of the wax layer. The method of present invention provides a simpler, rapid, scalable, efficient, and cost-effective wax-removal method for the preservation of multi-scale pristine features at micro and nano-level and enhances its accessibility for biomimetic applications.
