Abstract: Some embodiments herein provide a signaling framework for exchange of handshake messages between a reader and an ambient internet of things (IoT) device. The reader may determine an energy status of the ambient IoT device, and perform a follow-up procedure for the ambient IoT device when the energy status is determined to be below a threshold. In some embodiments, the reader may send an energy harvest command to the ambient IoT device to cause the ambient IoT device prepare for harvesting energy.
