Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of synthesizing a benzoic acid compound of Formula I,its salts, and solvates thereof, and a fatty acid compound of Formula 5 II, its salts and solvates thereof, the method comprising: i. oxidizing compound of Formula IV to obtain compound of Formula III; and ii. treating the compound of Formula III with a first oxidizing agent and a first (in)organic alkaline agent. The present disclosure further provides a method of synthesizing a compound of Formula I from cashew nutshell liquid. The present disclosure provides a compound 10 of Formula I, Formula II, Formula III, and Formula IV , independently having at least 70% of green carbon. 31
