MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124074 A) filed by Rajalakshmi Engineering College on October 16, 2026, for Methyl Orange As A Novel Sulfonate Couterion In Diaquabis(1,10-Phenanthroline) Mn(ii) Complex: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, And In Vitro Biological Evaluations.
Inventors include Dr P. Ramadevi; and B. Anushiya.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: To a novel manganese(II) coordination complex comprising manganese(II), 1,10-phenanthroline, coordinated water molecules, methyl-orange-derived sulfonate ions, and lattice water molecules. The complex was prepared by a simple slow-evaporation crystallization method, wherein manganese(H) acetate and 1,10-phenanthroline are dissolved in water and ethanol, respectively, while methyl orange is separately dissolved in water and mixed with ethanol. The resulting solutions are combined and maintained under controlled slow-evaporation conditions to obtain crystalline material. The obtained crystals are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT- IR, UV-Visible spectroscopy, TGA-DSC, and SEM-EDX to establish their structural, spectroscopic, thermal, and crystallographic properties. The compound exhibits a defined Mn(II) coordination environment with intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and aromatic interactions, providing a crystalline material with potential applications in coordination chemistry, functional materials, and biological investigations.
