MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511006630 A) filed by Amity University on January 27, 2025, for Microbial Consortium For Pesticide Degradation And Plant Growth Promotion.

Inventors include Shashi Sharma; Navpreet Kaur; and Mridula Chaturvedi.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an optimized microbial consortium for simultaneous degradation of pesticide residues and promotion of plant growth. The consortium comprises compatible rhizospheric bacterial strains capable of degrading organochlorine, organophosphate and pyrethroid pesticides, particularly lindane, chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin, and exhibiting plant growth promoting traits. The consortium is formulated at an optimized inoculum concentration and supplemented with carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and biosurfactant to achieve enhanced biodegradation efficiency. Encapsulation of the microbial consortium in sodium alginate improves shelf life, stability and handling characteristics. The disclosed system enables rapid degradation of pesticide cocktails in soil, achieving greater than 99% removal within 7– 28 days, while simultaneously enhancing plant growth, chlorophyll content and antioxidant enzyme activity, and reducing plant stress biomarkers. The invention provides an eco-friendly, sustainable and scalable solution for bioremediation of pesticide-contaminated agricultural soils and improvement of crop productivity.
