Abstract: A load frequency control system for a microgrid includes a Type-III fuzzy logic controller (108, 110) configured to receive an area control error signal indicative of frequency deviation in a microgrid area and to generate a control output. The Type-III fuzzy logic controller employs interval Type-2 fuzzy sets as secondary membership functions to handle uncertainties in the microgrid system. A proportional-integral-derivative control structure is coupled to an output of the Type-III fuzzy logic controller. The proportional-integral-derivative control structure includes a proportional gain path, an integral gain path with an integrator, and a derivative gain path with a derivative operator. Outputs from the proportional gain path, the integral gain path, and the derivative gain path are summed to produce a final control signal for regulating frequency in the microgrid area. (FIG. 2)
