MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641077925 A) filed by The Principal, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College on June 24, 2026, for Mo-Loaded Hydrochar: A New Catalyst For Oxidative Desulfurization Of Benzothiophene.

Inventors include J. Amala Ebi Jacob; Dr. R. Antony; and Dr. A. Sakthivel.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The combustion of sulfur-containing liquid fuels releases toxic sulfur oxides into the environment. Therefore, removirtg sulfbr compounds such as beiizulliiuphcnc (DT) fiom liquid fuels, especially under mild and low- cost conditions, has gained significant attention. Oxidative desulfurization using H2O2 and a catalyst can remove sulfur compounds under mild conditions at low cost. The etfectiveness of this process depends on the efficiency of the catalyst This invention relates to the preparation and characterization of a new composite catalyst for oxidative desulfurization of model fuel. Hydrochar (HC) was prepared from Azadirachta indica barks. HC was then reacted with ammonium heptamolybdate under hydrothermal conditions to form the composite catalyst Mo@HC. FT-JR and PXRD results show that HC contains calcite particles, and Mo@HC has CaM,oO4 crystals on its surface. The prepared Mo@HC removed 300 ppm sulfur (100%) from model oil containing 300 ppm sulfur (BT) at 60 ^C using H2O2 (0/S = 2.5, the molar ratio between H2O2 and BT). The best sulfur removal was obtained with 20 mg of Mo@HC.
