MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641093554 A) filed by Akash Shanmugam on August 02, 2026, for Modular Adaptive Battery System (mabs) For Electric Vehicles With A Detachable Primary Propulsion Battery Module And Automatic Reserve Battery Switching.
Inventor includes Akash Shanmugam.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a Modular Adaptive Battery System (MABS) for electric vehicles, comprising a detachable battery module configured to function as a primary propulsion energy source and a permanently installed reserve battery configured to maintain vehicle operation when the detachable battery module is depleted, removed, or unavailable. The system includes a Smart Battery Dock Assembly configured to mechanically secure, electrically connect, and authenticate the detachable battery module, together with an Automatic Power Switching Controller configured to monitor battery operating parameters and automatically transfer propulsion power between the detachable battery module and the reserve battery without interrupting vehicle operation. The invention further provides a battery swapping and charging ecosystem in which detachable battery modules are exchanged, authenticated, inspected, charged using external charging infrastructure, and returned to operational inventory. A mobile application and cloud platform may facilitate battery monitoring, station management, battery reservation, inventory management, and operational communication. The disclosed system is applicable to newly manufactured electric vehicles as well as retrofit installations and may be implemented in passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, buses, and other electric mobility platforms. By separating battery charging from vehicle operation and enabling rapid battery replacement with automatic reserve battery support, the invention improves operational continuity, reduces vehicle downtime, enhances battery management, and supports scalable battery swapping infrastructure.
