The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a modular multilevel DC–DC converter (MMDC) for an electric vehicle (EV), and method of its operation. The MMDC comprises a first half- bridge stack (100) and a second half-bridge stack (200), each including a plurality of half-bridge submodules (102, 202) having capacitors and semiconductor switches. The stacks are electrically coupled between a dynamically reconfigurable battery (DRB) and a DC bus of an inverter (I). An input inductor (300) is connected to a common junction between the stacks (100, 200), while an output inductor (400) and an output capacitor (500) are connected at the output side. A microcontroller (600) controls the semiconductor switches to selectively insert or bypass the capacitors during charging and discharging modes. During the charging mode, capacitors of the first half-bridge stack establish a charging path for the input inductor, whereas, during the discharging mode, capacitors of the second half-bridge stack are selectively inserted to regulate energy transfer, thereby improving voltage conversion efficiency and power management in the EV.
