Abstract: The present invention relates to a modular thermosyphon-assisted solar desalination system incorporating replaceable phase change material (PCM) thermal energy storage modules for enhancing freshwater production through efficient utilization of solar thermal energy. The system comprises a passive thermosyphon-based heat transfer arrangement configured to circulate heat transfer fluid through natural convection between a solar thermal collector, thermal storage modules, and an evaporation chamber without requiring external electrical power, mechanical pumps, or active control systems. A multi-stage PCM thermal storage architecture comprising phase change materials having different melting temperatures is provided to enable sequential thermal energy storage and controlled heat release, thereby maintaining evaporation operation during periods of reduced or absent solar radiation. The invention further incorporates fin-enhanced PCM heat exchange structures and modular quick-connect arrangements to improve thermal charging and discharging performance, simplify maintenance, and enable flexible adjustment of thermal storage capacity. The stored thermal energy is utilized to maintain uniform basin temperatures and sustain freshwater generation beyond conventional daylight operation. The proposed system provides an energy-efficient, scalable, and environmentally sustainable desalination solution capable of improving solar thermal utilization, freshwater productivity, and operational reliability for domestic, agricultural, industrial, coastal, remote, and emergency water purification applications through entirely passive thermal management.
