MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521021334 A) filed by Gujarat Council On Science And Technology Gujcost; and Dr. Mitali Vasavada on March 10, 2025, for Multi-Petal Speculum With Camera And Light Source..

Inventor includes Dr. Mitali Vasavada.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a gynecological speculum device comprising a plurality of expandable petals arranged circumferentially around a central longitudinal axis and a central visualization core including a camera module and an illumination source. Each petal comprises an internal air chamber configured to expand radially outward upon controlled pneumatic pressurization to achieve uniform circumferential dilation of a vaginal canal. The inflatable petals transition between a closed insertion configuration and one or more expanded configurations, thereby enabling atraumatic insertion and adjustable dilation. A non-inflatable proximal collar portion provides structural anchoring and prevents axial displacement during pressurization. The central visualization core remains aligned with the longitudinal axis during expansion to provide stable real-time imaging. In certain embodiments, a detachable inflatable sleeve is provided for hygiene purposes, and a digital processing module is configured to calculate anatomical measurements based on captured image data. The device enables controlled dilation, improved visualization, enhanced measurement reproducibility, and reduced localized tissue stress compared to rigid mechanical specula.
