MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124252 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on October 16, 2026, for Multifunctional Biodegradable Intelligent Packaging Film.

Inventors include Chandran, Greeshma U; Shankar, Balakrishnan; and Sambhudevan, Sreedha.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to food packaging films. A system (100) and a method (200) are disclosed for formation an intelligent biodegradable packaging film. The biodegradable packaging film (100) comprises a polymer matrix (102) comprising a plurality of polymers. A a first polymer (102A) of the plurality of polymers is mixed in a predetermined proportion with a second polymer (102B) of the plurality of polymers. The biodegradable packaging film (100) comprises a crosslinking agent (104) configured to chemically crosslink at least a portion of the polymer matrix, and a bioactive compound (106) dispersed within the polymer matrix in a predetermined amount. The biodegradable packaging film (100) undergoes a visually detectable color change in response to a change in environmental pH associated with food spoilage, and provide improved mechanical strength, moisture barrier performance, ultraviolet light attenuation, or oxidative stability relative to an otherwise identical film without the bioactive compound (106).
