MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611115534 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Pharmacy Institute on September 26, 2026, for Multilayer Biodegradable Dental Membrane With Sequential Antibiotic And Growth-Factor Delivery For Guided Bone Regeneration.

Inventors include Ashish Joshi; and Annu Bhati.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a multilayer biodegradable dental barrier membrane for guided bone regeneration comprising three functionally distinct polymer layers: an outermost electrospun poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) antibacterial barrier layer loaded with silver-zinc oxide core-shell hybrid nanoparticles providing sustained broad-spectrum bactericidal activity during days one through fourteen; an intermediate thermoformable solvent-cast polycaprolactone structural core layer enabling patient-specific three-dimensional geometry adaptation at 55 to 60 degrees Celsius; and an innermost electrospun polycaprolactone-nanohydroxyapatite osteoinductive layer incorporating bone morphogenetic protein-2-loaded chitosan microspheres for delayed sustained growth factor release from week two through week twelve. The membrane includes integrally moulded biodegradable poly-L-lactic acid self-anchoring fixation pins eliminating the need for metallic fixation hardware. In preclinical calvarial defect models, the membrane achieves 68 percent bone volume fraction at eight weeks, representing a 1.66-fold improvement over commercial collagen membranes, with concurrent infection prevention and excellent biocompatibility.
