The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: A nanostructured multi-layer coating system for biomedical components is disclosed. The system comprises a biomedical substrate, a substrate preparation layer, an adhesion layer, one or more nanostructured hard layers, one or more transition layers, a gradient functional layer, and an outer protective layer arranged to form a multilayer coating architecture. The substrate is initially prepared through cleaning and surface activation processes before deposition of the adhesion layer. Sequential deposition of alternating nanostructured hard layers and transition layers forms a mechanically stable multilayer structure capable of distributing stresses and inhibiting crack propagation. A gradient functional layer provides a gradual transition in material composition between the structural multilayer stack and the outer protective layer. The outer protective layer provides reduced friction, enhanced corrosion resistance, and improved wear characteristics suitable for prolonged biomedical applications. The deposition process is controlled by a process controller configured to regulate chamber pressure, substrate temperature, plasma characteristics, deposition rate, gas flow, substrate bias, and layer thickness. The completed coating undergoes structural characterization and quality verification prior to application on biomedical components including orthopedic implants, dental implants, cardiovascular devices, spinal implants, prosthetic components, surgical instruments, and other implantable or reusable medical devices.
