Abstract: The present invention relates to a nanostructured system and composition for targeted sequestration and removal of dye contaminants from wastewater. The disclosed system includes an adsorption treatment unit having a nanostructured bio-adsorbent composition comprising thermally treated Butea monosperma biomass along with nanostructured functional additives and magnetic nanoparticles. Such additives can include graphene oxide nanosheets, nanostructures of activated carbon, layered double hydroxides, carbon nanotubes, silica nanoparticles, metal organic frameworks (MOF), and their combinations to increase the surface area of the adsorbents, enhance adsorption kinetics, and increase the affinity of adsorbents towards contaminants. The composition also includes magnetic nanoparticles that are capable of enabling the magnetic retrieval and regeneration of the adsorption material after its use in wastewater treatment. Sensing modules are utilized to monitor various process parameters such as dye concentration, pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, turbidity, and adsorption capacity of the adsorbent and flow characteristics of the wastewater. An AI/ML- based control framework is used to optimize various process parameters such as adsorption dosages, timing of regeneration, length of adsorption cycles, and flow characteristics of wastewater.
