Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for network initiated slice selection that include receiving a first message instructing the AMF to initiate for a user equipment (UE) replacement of a first network slice of the communication network, wherein the first message is associated with a request for network initiated slice selection from an application function (AF); modifying an allowed network slice assistance information (NSSAI) for the UE to exclude a single-NSSAI (S- NSSAI) identifying the first network slice and include a S-NSSAI identifying a second network slice; and transmitting a second message to the UE that comprises the modified allowed NSSAI to the UE and a command instructing the UE to re-evaluate UE route selection policy (URSP) rules associated with the UE based on the modified allowed NSSAI.
