Abstract: NON-UNIFORM CROSS-SECTIONAL SHROUDED VERTICAL-AXIS WIND ROTOR FOR URBAN WIND ENERGY HARVESTING A non-uniform cross- sectional shrouded vertical-axis wind rotor (100) for urban wind energy harvesting is disclosed. The wind rotor comprises a rotor shaft (112) defining a rotational axis, an upper semi-circular blade section (103), a centrally positioned helical blade section (104), a lower semi-circular blade section (105), a top flanged shroud (102), and a bottom flanged shroud (106) arranged in a stacked configuration along the rotational axis. The stacked blade arrangement together with the top and bottom flanged shrouds defines a non-uniform cross-sectional profile having a mid-plane diameter (412) greater than end diameters, thereby forming a bulged mid-section. The integrated blade geometry and flanged shrouds accelerate inflow, redistribute spanwise airflow, reduce negative pressure zones on returning blades, and minimize negative torque and flow separation. The rotor provides integrated flow control without external flow modifiers and is particularly suitable for efficient wind energy harvesting under low-speed and multidirectional urban wind conditions.
