Inventors include Dr. Gayyurul Islam; Dr. Navneet Verma; Ms. Ramandeep Kaur; Ms. Chaya Rani; and Dr. Mhaveer Singh.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a series of novel coumarin-based molecular hybrids of general formula 3-[(E)-3-aryl-3-oxoprop-1-enyl]-2H-chromen-2-one, designated C1 to C8, wherein the aryl group is selected from phenyl, hydroxyphenyl, methoxyphenyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl, dimethoxyphenyl and dihydroxyphenyl variants. The compounds are prepared by base-catalysed Claisen-Schmidt condensation of 3-acetylcoumarin with the corresponding substituted benzaldehydes in ethanolic sodium hydroxide, affording yields of 70 to 85 percent. The compounds exhibit concentration-dependent DPPH radical-scavenging activity with IC50 values from 38.7 to 84.6 microgram per millilitre and heat-induced bovine serum albumin denaturation inhibition with IC50 values from 82.3 to 167.5 microgram per millilitre. The dihydroxy-substituted lead compound C8 combines the best DPPH IC50 of 38.7 and albumin-denaturation IC50 of 82.3 microgram per millilitre, approaching ibuprofen potency and identifying phenolic hydroxyl substitution as the key structural feature for dual activity.
