Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION: The present invention relates to a novel formulation of Chromolaena odorata herbal gel for the management of wounds. More particularly, the invention relates to the collection and authentication of Chromolaena odorata leaves. The invention also involves extraction of_Chromolaena odorata leaves fine powder using millipore water for aqueous by hot maceration extraction and methanol solvent for methanolic extraction by Soxhlet extraction techniques. The invention also comprises the primary phytochemical screening of aqueous and methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata leaves respectively. The invention also pertains assessment of effective separation of bioactive compounds in aqueous and methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata leaves by UV-Visible Spectrophotometric, High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) and Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) techniques. The invention encompasses the development and evaluation of 1% novel gel formulation of aqueous and methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata leaves by considering parameters such as physical appearance, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, rheology, percent drug content and stability. The invention also consists of in- vitro and in-vivo experimental investigation of developed 1% novel gel formulation of aqueous and methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata leaves by cytotoxicity / MTT assay, scratch / migration assay and burn induced wound protocol in Wistar rats through studying parameters like cell viability, epithelial cells capacity to migrate, wound healing and histopathological examinations.
