MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641119214 A) filed by Jss Academy Of Higher Education And Research Jssaher on October 05, 2026, for Novel Tetrahydroisoquinoline - Sulfonylthiourea Compounds Thereof And Their Anticancer Applications.

Inventors include Honnavalli Yogish Kumar; Sanyukta Bhattacharya; Tenzin Adon; and Aayush Bhattacharya.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ)-based sulfonylthiourea derivatives having anticancer activity, particularly against colorectal cancer. The invention provides a series of eighteen compounds comprising a 1-(substituted phenyl)-6,7-dimethoxy tetrahydroisoquinoline scaffold linked to a substituted phenyl moiety through a sulfonylthiourea functionality. The compounds are synthesized through formation of substituted tetrahydroisoquinolines, conversion thereof into corresponding sulfonamides, and subsequent reaction with phenyl isothiocyanate or substituted derivatives. The synthesized derivatives are characterized by infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and melting-point determination. The compounds are evaluated for cytotoxic activity against HCT116 colorectal carcinoma cells and for toxicity toward non-malignant cells. Selected compounds exhibit anticancer activity and are further evaluated for apoptosis, cell-cycle modulation, and cancer-related gene expression. The invention therefore provides THIQ-based sulfonylthioureas as novel chemical entities and lead scaffolds for developing selective small-molecule anticancer agents for colorectal cancer.
