Abstract: A compact device for monitoring the state of the oil of a pipe (T) or tank (V) of an industrial machine or plant wherein the device comprises a first portion (4) and a second portion (5). The portion (4) comprises first means (3) for stably coupling the device with the pipe (T) or tank (V), at least one sensor (10) for detecting at least one first monitoring parameter with an operative end (11) designed to come into contact with the oil to be monitored once the device has been coupled with the pipe or tank. The monitoring parameter relates to temperature, humidity, pressure, viscosity, dielectric strength, temperature/humidity or contamination class. The portion (5) comprises at least one data processing logic unit (30) which can be operatively removably connected with said at least one sensor (10) of said first portion (4). The device comprises means (90) for selectively coupling/de-coupling the first and second portion (4, 5) which can be actuated by an operator.
