Abstract: Disclosed herein is system and method for an omnidirectional three-dimensional underwater imaging using single acoustic vector sensor with no motion requirement. A method (900) for three-dimensional underwater acoustic imaging performed by an underwater acoustic imaging system (200) comprises transmitting (902) a frequency modulated acoustic signal underwater to insonify an imaging field, and receiving acoustic signals associated with and scattered by one or more objects (104). The method (900) further comprises correlating the received acoustic signals with the transmitted frequency modulated acoustic signal to generate cross-correlation outputs indicating values at predetermined time indices. The method (900) further comprises determining three-dimensional spatial coordinates of the one or more objects (104) based on the values, wherein the three-dimensional spatial coordinates comprise range, azimuth angle, and elevation angle, and generating a three-dimensional image of the imaging field based on the three-dimensional spatial coordinates corresponding to the one or more objects (104).
