Abstract: An operating system, in particular for a self-propelled construction machine, comprises a first operating element (28), wherein the first operating element (28) is to be moved in a first type of movement for selection of a function from a plurality of selectable functions and is to be moved in a second type of movement for confirming the selection of a function from the plurality of selectable functions, wherein a first illumination unit (36) is assigned to the first operating ele-ment (28) for illuminating the first operating element (28), as well as a display screen for display-ing the functions selectable and/or selected by means of the first operating element (28), wherein at least one, preferably each, function of the plurality of selectable functions is assigned a func-tion color code, and wherein the first illumination unit (36) is configured to illuminate the first operating element (28) in a color corresponding to the function color code of the selected func-tion, after selection and/or confirming the selection of one of the functions by means of the first operating element (28).
