MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611074014 A) filed by Maharishi Markandeshwar Deemed To Be University on June 15, 2026, for Oxo-Quinoline-Based Red Fluorescence Dye For Latent Fingerprint Visualization By Powder Dusting Method.
Inventors include Savikriti Saini; and Dr. Selva Kumar Ramasamy.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an oxo-quinoline-based red fluorescent dye synthesized via Knoevenagel condensation of 6-methoxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline-3- carbaldehyde with 2-(3,5,5-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-ylidene)malononitrile in ethanol using piperidine as a catalyst. The resulting compound (VFC) is purified and processed into a fine powder for application in latent fingerprint visualization. The dye selectively adheres to fingerprint residues and exhibits intense red fluorescence under suitable excitation light. The method enables clear, high-contrast ridge pattern visualization on various surfaces using a simple powder dusting technique suitable for forensic applications.
