MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441069895 A) filed by Eicher Motors Limited on September 16, 2024, for Packaging Of Cells In Battery Pack Of An Electric Vehicle.

Abstract: ABSTRACT “PACKAGING OF CELLS IN BATTERY PACK OF AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE” A battery pack 100 for an EV 102 that provides improved thermal management, compact packaging, and structural integration is disclosed. The battery pack 102 comprises a housing 202 with a handgun-shaped configuration including a barrel portion and a handle portion, where the barrel portion accommodates a single flat layer of cells and the handle portion houses a PDU 206. The plurality of cells 204 are arranged into parallel groups connected in series through busbars, while terminal busbars directly couple the output terminals to the PDU 206, minimizing resistance and eliminating bulky wiring. A conductive polymer layer disposed above and below the plurality of cells 204, only on the negative tabs, and on all the busbars, transfers heat from the cells and busbars into the housing, which is formed of magnesium or magnesium alloys. The housing 202 further functions as a structural member of the vehicle chassis. Another polymer layer is dispensed between the cells and on top of the positive tabs of the cells, thermally isolates the particular cell from the neighbouring cells in the event of fire
