MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611078885 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Mandi on June 26, 2026, for Paver Block Integrated Photovoltaic And Tribo-Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting Device And Method Of Manufacturing Thereof.
Inventors include Saira Bano; Shubham Thakur; Bablesh Gupta; and Ranbir Singh.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a paver block energy harvesting device and a method of is manufacturing. The device comprises a hollow paver block assembly (100) having an upper housing portion (102) movably supported relative to a lower housing portion (104) through spring members (108) disposed within corresponding guide casings (110) in an internal cavity (106). A solar panel (200) mounted on the upper housing portion (102) generates direct current (DC) electrical energy from incident sunlight. A tribo-piezoelectric nanogenerator (300) disposed within the internal cavity (106) includes a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coated electropositive sheet (302) and an electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride-lead zirconium titanate-Nafion (PVDF/PZT/N) composite nanofiber-based electronegative sheet (304) separated by sponges (308) maintaining an air gap (306) therebetween. Compression of the upper housing portion (102) under pedestrian or vehicular loads causes contact between the electropositive and electronegative sheets (302, 304), generating alternating current (AC) electrical energy through combined triboelectric and piezoelectric effects. A power conditioning circuit (400) receives, rectifies, and regulates the electrical outputs from the solar panel (200) and the nanogenerator (300) for charging a battery (406) or powering an electrical load (500).
